Ghaziabad: Mother And Daughter Live With Deceased Son's Body For Days, Believing He Was Asleep

In Ghaziabad, a mentally challenged woman believed that her deceased 13-year-old son was asleep for several days. Neighbors alerted the police due to a foul smell, leading to the discovery of Tejas Jain's body.

A woman and her daughter kept the dead body of her 13-year-old son in their flat for several days in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, believing he was merely asleep, police said on Tuesday. The deceased, Tejas Jain, lived with his mother Komal Jain (50) and sister Kavya (22) in Chandranagar colony. Both Komal and Kavya have been reported to be mentally challenged since the death of Komal's husband a decade ago.

According to news agency PTI, the matter came to light when neighbours, disturbed by a foul smell emanating from the flat, alerted the police on Sunday. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sahibabad, Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyay stated, "When the police reached the flat, they broke open the house and found Tejas lying on the floor, while Komal and Kavya were sitting near him. The duo claimed that they thought Tejas was sleeping."

Neighbours mentioned that the family kept their lights switched off and avoided interaction with others in the colony, PTI reported. Kavya, due to her illness, had to discontinue her studies after 12th grade. Komal's brother, Prashant Jain, who resides in Delhi's Chawri Bazar, has been supporting the family's expenses. "The police found the house in a dirty state, and Komal and Kavya were in a miserable condition," ACP Upadhyay added. as quoted by PTI.

Autopsy reports on Tuesday confirmed that Tejas died of septicemia. His last rites will be performed on Wednesday.

Ghaziabad: Delhi Man Found Dead In Hotel Room In Kaushambi

In another incident, the body of a 35-year-old man was discovered in a hotel room in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, on Monday. The victim, identified as Emil Joseph, was a resident of Pritampura, Delhi, and worked as a tax analyst.

The discovery was made when Joseph's brother, after receiving a message from him, requested the hotel staff to open the door, PTI reported. Deputy Commissioner of Police, trans-Hindan, Nimish Patil, stated, "The manager of the hotel opened the door with a duplicate key and found Joseph in an unconscious state. Around 10 am, the manager called the police."

Joseph was found to have vomited on the bed sheet, and a pre-prescription from December 2023, prescribing medicine for depression, was found among his belongings. "Some wrappers of tablets were also found on his bed. Prima facie, it seems that he overdosed on the depression tablets," police said, as quoted by PTI. Joseph's laptop, mobile, and other belongings have been taken into custody for investigation, and his body has been sent for post-mortem.
