Farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march was stopped at Shambhu border with Section 163 of the BNSS imposed in Ambala.

The protesting farmers who began their 'Delhi Chalo' march from the Shambhu border to Delhi were stopped at the Shmabhu border as police said farmers didn't have permission to move ahead. 

In the wake of the protest, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita was imposed in Ambala restricting the unlawful assembly of five or more persons in the district. 

"We won't allow them to move ahead. Section 163 has been imposed... we are not supposed to allow without permission. They must have the permission," said a police official as the farmers began their foot march.

As a precautionary measure, internet services have also been suspended in several villages under Ambala district including Dangdehri, Lohgarh, Manakpur, Dadiana, Bari Ghel, Lahars, Kalu Majra, Devi Nagar, Saddopur, Sultanpur, and Kakru.

The services will remain suspended till December 9.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Bhagirath Chaudhary said Centre is ready for talks. 

“Farmers should come and talk. Our doors are open for them or if they will invite us then we are also ready to go to them… PM Modi had worked for farmers from 2014 to 2024. He wants the farmers to become happy and prosperous,” the minister said. 

Earlier on Friday, the police put up multi-layer barricading on the Ambala-Delhi Border, with central paramilitary forces deployed on the Haryana side of the border.  

The farmers are marching to force the Centre over several demands including legal guarantee for minimum support price of crops, farm debt waiver, pension for farmers and farm labourers, no hike in electricity tariff, withdrawal of police cases (against farmers), and "justice" for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

They are also demanding reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 and compensation to the families of farmers who died during the previous agitation in 2020-21.
