Delhi On High Alert After Blast Near CRPF School, Union Home Ministry Seeks Report As NIA Launches Probe

Delhi Blast: An explosion near a school has prompted a probe by multiple agencies, including the NIA. An FIR has been registered under the Explosives Act, and security has been heightened in major markets.

Investigation agencies have been placed on high alert after a blast near the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) school in Prashant Vihar, Rohini district, on Sunday. The probe into the incident has now been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). In the wake of the school blast, the Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report from the investigating agencies.

Delhi Blast: FIR Filed Under Explosives Act

In connection with the case, Delhi Police has registered an FIR under the Explosives Act. Currently, the Special Cell, NIA, CRPF, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and National Security Guard (NSG) are involved in the investigation. The entire area has been cordoned off, and mapping of the vicinity is underway. CCTV footage from nearby shops is being examined to identify the person(s) responsible for planting the bomb. A high alert has been declared across Delhi, and security has been ramped up in major markets.

Teams are also analysing the data from mobile towers in the vicinity of the CRPF school, covering the period from the night of 19 October 2024 to 9 AM on 20 October. Dump data of the entire area will be collected to determine how many phones were active between last night and the time of the explosion. Information on these active phones will then be gathered for further analysis.

According to sources, police had prior intelligence about a major terror plot in Delhi during the festive season, following which all districts were put on alert. Forces were deployed accordingly at various locations.

According to sources cited by news agency ANI, the police have seen the movement of two suspicious people near the spot and the officials verifying whether they had any role in the explosion.

The explosion caused a white cloud of smoke to rise into the sky, leading to a strong odour spreading through the surrounding area. Visuals of the same surfaced on social media. No injuries were reported in the incident.
