Delhi: BJP MLAs Urge Dismissal Of AAP Govt In Meeting With President Murmu, Allege 'Governance Paralysis'

BJP demands the dismissal of AAP-led Delhi government, alleging a "constitutional crisis" due to CM Kejriwal's imprisonment.

A delegation of BJP MLAs met President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, demanding the dismissal of the AAP government in Delhi, citing a "constitutional crisis" after the imprisonment of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP has not yet responded to the BJP's accusations.

Led by Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, submitted a memorandum to the president, requesting her urgent intervention in what they termed a "constitutional crisis plaguing Delhi" and expressing concerns over the functioning of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Gupta stated in a release.

The memorandum argued that the AAP government had "lost all moral right to govern" and had "blatantly deceived the mandate" of the people of Delhi. Vijender Gupta highlighted that the core issue is the "paralysis of governance" due to Delhi CM Kejriwal being in jail for over four months on serious corruption charges.

"Kejriwal has refused to resign, creating an unprecedented situation that has led to a complete breakdown of governance in Delhi. Critical administrative decisions are being delayed, and essential services are severely affected, directly impacting the lives of the citizens of Delhi," he said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

BJP Accuses AAP Govt Of 'Significant Constitutional Violations'

The memorandum presented to the President accused the AAP government of "significant constitutional violations." "Most notably, the failure to constitute the Sixth Delhi Finance Commission, which has been due since April 2021. This neglect represents a grave violation of Articles 243-I and 243-Y of the Constitution of India and has severely impeded proper financial planning and resource allocation for the city, particularly affecting the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)," it said.

The crisis also involves the AAP government's "repeated failure" to present important reports, including those of the CAG, in the Delhi Assembly. This "suppression" of critical information "obstructs" transparency and issued questions about financial propriety, the memorandum noted.

It also detailed the corruption in the delhi government and the obstruction of various welfare schemes of the Centre in Delhi. "In light of the these gave constitutional violations and governance failures, We, the members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly respectfully urge your excellency to take cognisance of the matter and dismiss the government in Delhi," it said.

The delegation included BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Ajay Mahawar, Om Prakash Sharma, Abhay Verma, Anil Bajpai, and Jitender Mahajan, along with Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh and former minister Raj Kumar Anand, who recently joined the BJP after leaving AAP.
