Delhi: 17-Year-Old Dies From Electrocution At Kalkaji Temple, Triggers Stampede Leaving 6 Injured

The boy, who was standing in the queue, touched the railing and was fatally electrocuted, which triggered a stampede. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

A 17-year-old boy was electrocuted while waiting in line to enter Kalkaji Temple, leading to panic among devotees triggering a stampede that left six people injured, police said on Thursday.

According to a report by PTI, the police were alerted to the stampede near Kalkaji temple at 12:40 am and immediately rushed the six injured to AIIMS Trauma Centre and Safdarjung Hospital. Meanwhile, the doctors at Safdarjung Hospital confirmed to the police that the death of the boy was due to electrocution

According to a senior police officer, the incident occurred when a halogen light’s electric wire, used for Navratra arrangements, broke and came into contact with an iron railing. The boy, who was standing in the queue, touched the railing and was fatally electrocuted. The resulting panic led to the stampede. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Boy Dies From Electrocution While Playing Cricket In Ranhola

A similar incident came to light on August 11 in Delhi where a 13-year-old boy lost his life after being electrocuted while playing cricket in the Ranhola area. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital but was declared dead upon arrival, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Jimmy Chiram stated that they got a PCR call on Saturday at 1.27 pm at the Ranhola police station regarding the death of a boy due to electrocution. The police discovered that the boy, who was playing cricket in Kotla Vihar Phase-2, was electrocuted after he came into contact with an iron pole that was carrying electricity to a gaushala (cowshed), DCP Chiram added.

"He was immediately taken to DDU Hospital by PCR van where he was declared dead," PTI quoted DCP as saying. Police filed an FIR under Section 106 (1) of the BNS and an investigation has been launched.
