In preparation for Chennai Air Show 2024, Chennai International Airport has announced periodic flight disruptions and airspace closures from October 1 to 8 to accommodate the IAF’s aerial displays.
Chennai Air Show 2024: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to celebrate its 92nd anniversary with a grand air show on October 6 at Chennai's Marina Beach, featuring 72 aircraft in an open-for-all event. This celebration will lead up to the official Air Force Day Raising Day event on October 8 in Chennai.
Ahead of the event, rehearsals started in Chennai on Tuesday. A X user on Wednesday said, "Got a chance to witness the rehearsal of the upcoming Chennai Marina Beach Air Show."

Rathish Kumar VM, Air Officer Commanding of the Tambaram Air Force Station, highlighted the significance of the event, saying, "Our theme for the 92nd Air Force Day is 'Potent, Powerful, and Self-reliant.' In line with this, our display at Marina Beach will feature 72 aircraft, including fighter jets like the indigenously developed Tejas and Sukhoi Su-30 MKI. The main aerobatic performances will be carried out by the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, and the spectacle can be witnessed from Marina to Kovalam."
The air show will showcase a variety of IAF aircraft, including Tejas and Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighters, and helicopters from the Sarang team, underlining the theme of "Bhartiya Vayu Sena - Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar" (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant).
In preparation for the event, the Chennai International Airport has announced periodic flight disruptions and airspace closures from October 1 to 8 to accommodate the IAF’s aerial displays. Airspace will be closed in intervals ranging from 15 minutes to two hours, particularly on October 6, when the air show takes place.
