The mother of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash, who died by suicide, fainted at the Patna airport while speaking to reporters on Wednesday amidst the calls for justice.

Raising questions over the judicial, the techie's father told news agency PTI, "Our judicial system is so weak... my son has told everything. He was tortured a lot, and we were not aware he was so sad."

Wife's Family Says 'We Regret His Death But Are Not Guilty'

However, his wife's family has expressed regret over his death but is not guilty of what happened. His wife's family stated that they would soon present evidence to support their innocence.

"We are not Guilty of what happened. We will come out with all the proof soon. We have done nothing wrong. We regret Atul’s death," said the family of the techie's wife in an interview with CNN-News18.

Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old Bengaluru engineer, took his own life on December 9, reportedly due to harassment from his estranged wife and her family. His suicide note and a 90-minute video detailed his struggles and revealed that his wife had filed nine cases against him.

According to a report by CNN-News18, after Subhash’s death, his brother Bikas Kumar filed a complaint against four individuals, which was later converted into an FIR by Bengaluru police. The FIR names Subhash’s wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother, Nisha Singhania; her brother, Anurag Singhania; and her uncle, Sushil Singhania, under sections 108 and 3(5) of the BNS.

However, the uncle of the techie's wife, Sushil Singhania refuted his association with this case. He claimed that the case had been going on for the past three years, but he hadn't met them since then.

Amid growing calls for justice, the Supreme Court expressed concern over the misuse of cruelty laws by married women to harass their husbands and in-laws for selfish reasons. A Bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh noted that the law initially meant to protect women from domestic violence, is sometimes being exploited to force compliance with "unreasonable demands".
