The company said EVs based on the new architecture will have larger batteries and a certified range of 400 - 500 km. The new vehicles will also be capable of faster and more efficient charging

New Delhi: Tata Motors unveiled a new electric vehicle concept on Wednesday.

The company had earlier released a teaser of the new model on its website and also tweeted about it.

According to reports, the upcoming model, Curvv, is expected to be an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), which will join the league of Tigor and Nexon electric vehicles.

Tata Motors has been planning a new mid-sized SUV and according to auto sector watchers, this new launch could fit in the Nexon and Harrier line-up.

According to reports, EVs based on the new architecture will have larger batteries and a certified range of 400 - 500 kms. The new vehicles will also be capable of faster and more efficient charging, the company said.

Curvv EV will be placed above the Nexon making it the first mid-size electric SUV in Tata Motors’ EV portfolio. The production version is scheduled to be launched in 2024, news reports said.

Managing Director at Tata Motors' passenger vehicles segment Shailesh Chandra, had recently said that SUVs are leading the overall sales and even electric vehicles are gaining momentum.

At the same time he had added that though the chip shortage situation has improved, it remains uncertain. He had added that the company is trying to resolve the issue with suppliers.

Meanwhile, the proposed new electric SUV concept which Tata Motors launched will highlight the brand's future perspective on electric vehicles.

Tata Motors has over 90 per cent of India's electric car market. It sold 19,000 EVs in the fiscal year ended March 31, up from 4,200 units the previous year.
