Stock Market Closed Today: After Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the market will be closed on October 24, Tuesday, for Dussehra
The stock market across India is closed on October 2 (Monday) on account of Gandhi Jayanti. All segments of the market, including equity, derivatives and SLB, will remain closed for trading on Monday. The multi-commodity exchange will also be closed on Monday for both morning and evening sessions. In 2023, the total number of holidays in stock market are 15, two more than in 2022.
According to the official list of holidays in stock market, there are two days in the month of October when traders will not be able to buy or sell shares. After Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the market will again remain closed on October 24, Tuesday, for Dussehra. After October, the market will remain closed for trading on November 14 on occasion of Diwali and November 27 for Guru Nanak Jayanti. In December, the equity markets will remain closed on the 25th for Christmas.

In the previous session on Friday, the two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, closed higher following a decline in crude oil prices globally. The S&P BSE Sensex surged 320 points to end at 65,828. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 quoted 19,638, up 115 points. The domestic indices soared to 66,152 and 19,726 during intra-day trading.
Meanwhile, in October, banks across the country will remain closed for a total of 16 days because of both national and regional holidays. From Durga Puja to Dussehra, October is the month of festivities. The banks will be closed all over the country during holidays such as Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Gandhi Jayanti. In some states, banks will observe Sri Mahalaya, Kati Bihu, and Lakshmi Puja. Other holidays include all Sundays as well as the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
