Share Market Today: Sensex Zooms 1293 Points; Nifty Settles At 24,835. All Sectors In The Green

Share market today: The two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, on Friday ended their 5-day losing run and settled higher on solid buying. The S&P BSE Sensex soared 1293 points to 81,333. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 jumped to 24,835, rising 429 points to fresh record high. In the past five days, the BSE Sensex slumped 1,303 points, while the NSE Nifty dropped 395 points.

Stock update

On 30-share BSE Sensex platform, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Infosys, Sun Pharma emerged top gainers. On the down side, only Nestle closed in the red.  

In line with the benchmarks, the broader markets also jumped higher, with the BSE Midcap index rallied nearly 2 per cent while the Smallcap index advanced over 1 per cent.

Sectoral update

Sectorwise, all the sectoral indices closed in the green. Nifty Metal, IT, Realty, and Nifty Healthcare were the lead gainers.

In the previous session on Thursday, the BSE Sensex index closed at 80,040, down 109 points, while the NSE Nifty50 settled at 24,406, down 7 points.

Global update

In Asian markets, Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled higher, while Tokyo ended lower. European markets were also trading in positive territory. The US markets ended mostly lower on Thursday.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.40 per cent to $82.04 a barrel.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 2,605.49 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.

Rupee gains 6 paise

The rupee recovered from its all-time low level and appreciated 6 paise to 83.72 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, on strength in the domestic markets and expectations of fresh foreign inflows. Forex traders said the rupee traded within a narrow range, taking cues from the dollar index, which remained flat.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.72 and touched an intra-day high of 83.69 and a low of 83.73 against the dollar during the session.

It finally settled at 83.72 (provisional) against the American currency, up 6 paisa from its previous close. On Thursday, the rupee dropped 7 paise to close at an all-time low of 83.78 against the US dollar.
