Have Bank Related Work? Check List of Days When Banks Will Remain Closed This Week

Banks will be closed in several cities including Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Jaipur, Jammu, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong and Shimla on August 19

Bank Holidays In August: Banks remained closed for almost three days in a row last week, and this week too several banks will not open. The banks were not functioning on Monday due to the Independence Day holiday, while some cities are observing holidays on Tuesday due to Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi). Banks will also remain closed on August 18 and 19 to celebrate Janmashtami.

Bank Holidays In Coming Weeks Of August

August 16, Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi) - Banks are closed on Tuesday in Belapur, Mumbai, and Nagpur for Parsi New Year.

August 18, Janmashtami (Thursday) - Banks in Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Kanpur and Lucknow to remain shut.

August 19, Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/ Krishna Jayanthi (Friday) - Banks will be closed in several cities including Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Jaipur, Jammu, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong and Shimla

August 20, Sri Krishna Ashtami (Saturday) - Banks in Hyderabad will remain closed on this occasion.

In total, the banks will remain closed for 18 days in August.

August 29, Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva - Banks in Guwahati will be shut on this day.

August 31, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Ganesh Chaturthi/ Varasiddhi Vinayaka Vrata/ Vinayakar Chathurthi - Banks in cities including Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur and Panaji to observe the holiday.

All banks remain closed on Sundays and second and last Saturdays.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced holidays for lenders under these categories - the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

RBI normally releases a state/union-wise list of bank holidays. The holidays are announced to ensure that people can plan their banking and related services accordingly. However, bank customers can carry out several transactions online during the days when banks remain closed.

All online banking activities and mobile transactions function uninterrupted during such times.
