'Offers Many Lessons For World': Bill Gates Praises India's Vaccination Drive At Davos Meet

Gates stressed on India's success with the vaccination drive and the use of technology to drive health outcomes at scale offers many lessons for the world

New Delhi: Lauding India's vaccination drive, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on Saturday shared perspectives on global health with Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland's Davos. "It was great to meet Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and exchange perspectives on global health. India's success with the vaccination drive and the use of technology to drive health outcomes at scale offers many lessons for the world," said Gates on the success of the vaccination drive, according to the news agency ANI.

On May 25, Mandaviya tweeted photos with Bill Gates saying, "A pleasure to interact with @Billgates at #WEF22. He appreciated India's success in #Covid19 management and mammoth vaccination efforts."

Mandaviya added, "We discussed a wide range of subjects relating to healthcare including the promotion of digital health, disease control management, creation of mRNA regional hubs, and strengthening the development of affordable and quality diagnostics & medical devices, etc."

Meanwhile, Mandaviya on Saturday informed that over 88 per cent of India's adult population has been fully vaccinated against Covid.

"Over 88 per cent of the adult population is now fully vaccinated against #Covid19. Congratulations India! Keep following Covid appropriate behaviour even after getting vaccinated", tweeted the health minister.

As stated in the report by the Health Ministry, a total of 55,70,67,459 first vaccine doses, 48,93,11,452 second doses, and 7,58,822 precaution doses have been administered among 18-44 years age group so far.

Around 2,685 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded across the country on Saturday. The total infection count has raised to 4,31,50,215, while the number of active cases increased to 16,308, according to Union health ministry data.

India's total vaccination coverage surpassed 193.13 crores on Saturday. This has been achieved through 2,44,45,929 sessions. Over 3.36 crore adolescents have been administered the first dose of
