Karan Adani Takes Charge Of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd As Its New MD
The APSEZ board has also approved the appointment of Ashwani Gupta, former global chief operating officer at Nissan Motors, as the new CEO of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.
Karan Adani has taken over from Gautam Adani as the managing director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) Ltd, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Gautam Adani will now serve as the 'executive chairman' of APSEZ. The Adani Group's move comes as part of a strategic reshuffle within the organisation.
As the CEO of APSEZ, Karan Adani took the company on a path of "remarkable growth" and played a pivotal role in advancing the nation's infrastructure, the statement read. Joining the Adani Group in 2009 at Mundra Port, he assumed the role of CEO in 2016. Under his leadership, APSEZ expanded its portfolio by adding four ports and terminals in India, one in Sri Lanka, and one in Israel. The company has emerged as India's fastest-growing private sector port developer and operator, managing 14 ports along the country's coastline and two ports internationally. Alongside its subsidiary, Adani Logistics Ltd, APSEZ has also become the largest and most diversified private rail operator in India, contributing significantly to logistics, harbour, and dredging businesses, the company said.

The APSEZ board has also approved the appointment of Ashwani Gupta, former global chief operating officer at Nissan Motors, as the new CEO of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.

The company said that Ashwani Gupta brings nearly 30 years of experience in the automotive, retail, and manufacturing sectors, having served as a global leader at Nissan Motors. Known for fostering key partnerships worldwide, Gupta has been at the forefront of industry sustainability, innovation, and change, emphasizing energy transition and customer-centric solutions.
