Who is Jayshree Ullal?

Ullal, a British-American billionaire businesswoman, has made a substantial impact as the President and CEO of Arista Networks, a leading Cloud networking company. Under her stewardship, Arista Networks transitioned from a fledgling start-up to a prominent player in the technology sector, culminating in a successful initial public offering (IPO) in June 2014. The company, renowned for its innovation in 10/25/40/50/100/400/800 Gigabit Ethernet networking, has become a critical player in data center networking solutions.

Ullal's professional journey began at Cisco Systems, followed by roles at Advanced Micro Devices and Fairchild Semiconductor. Her tenure at Arista Networks, which she joined when it had no revenue and fewer than 50 employees, has been marked by her leadership in business and thought leadership in AI and Cloud networking. In addition to her role at Arista, Ullal serves on the board of directors of Snowflake, a cloud computing company.

Personal Details

Born on March 27, 1961, in London, Ullal hails from a Hindu family of Indian origin. She spent her formative years in New Delhi, India, where she attended the Convent of Jesus and Mary. Ullal's academic journey took her to the United States, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Francisco State University in 1981. She furthered her education with a Master of Science in Engineering Management and Leadership from Santa Clara University in 1986.

Residing in Saratoga, California, Ullal is married to Vijay Ullal, a venture capitalist and former president and chief operating officer of Fairchild Semiconductor. The couple has two daughters. Ullal is also the sister of the late Saratoga City Councilwoman Susie Nagpal, who is survived by a son and daughter. Forbes estimates that Ullal owns approximately 5 per cent of Arista's stock, with some shares designated for her children, niece, and nephew.
