Many aspire to join Google as it is among the prestigious FAANG companies (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google) and is known for its perks and dynamic work environment. However, a current Google employee has revealed the stark reality behind the polished facade in a Reddit post. The user claimed that the "culture has become shit” at the company.

This Google employee, who also has experience at another FAANG company, offered an unexpected perspective on life at the tech giant.

The Reddit user wrote, “I am currently working in Google. This is my second FAANG company. I thought that after coming to Google life will be very good. But? The truth is the opposite. I been working for more than 12 hours daily or more than that, but still, the expectations are not met. My Manager is keeps telling that there is not enough impact.”

This sentiment resonated with many commenters, who noted that this trend has become more apparent at Google, mainly since the company started its mass layoffs.

One of the internet users wrote, “Yeah, heard this from Google since they started their cost cutting and layoffs. Same with many other companies. If you’ve good savings I’d say mentally chill and let your manager be screaming, anyways it’s just verbal crap.”

Another user added, “Xoogler here, and I agree with the cultural part of Google, it’s not same anymore, mass hiring is being done and it’s degrading now. They are trying to overcome quality by quantity and are hiring above average candidates instead of aiming for excellent candidates.”

“Don’t worry it happens, it’s called managing expectations. If despite all the work the expectations are not met, you either are not advocating your work, working on your visibility or cross functional impacts, ask your manger for definitive example that you saw in the org that will make it to cut, if despite of doing all it stays same, find time for yourself to build something rewarding in yourself, the appreciation hasn’t has to come from corporate alone. When time is up, you can easily get more senior roles elsewhere. By the way which language you use for interviews,” added a third user.
