Bank Holidays In September: In line with the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday guidelines, banks across India will observe several closures in September due to a mix of gazetted and non-gazetted holidays. These closures include both regional festivities and national holidays.

On September 14, which is both the second Saturday of the month and Onam, banks will be closed nationwide. Specifically, all public and private banks in Kerala will be closed for Onam celebrations, while the second Saturday closure affects all states.

Throughout September, banks will be closed for a total of at least 14 days, including weekends and various regional and religious holidays. This schedule comprises:

  • September 14: Second Saturday (Nationwide) / Onam (Kerala)

  • September 15: Sunday (Nationwide) / Thiruvonam (Kerala)

  • September 16: Eid-e-Milad (All states)

  • September 17: Indra Jatra (Sikkim)

  • September 18: Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti (Kerala)

Weekend closures in September include:

  • Sundays: September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

  • Second Saturday: September 14

  • Fourth Saturday: September 28

Additionally, there will be a long weekend in some states the following week, with closures on September 21 (Shree Narayana Guru Samadhi in Kerala), September 22 (Sunday nationwide), and September 23 (Heroes’ Martyrdom Day in Haryana).

In case of cash emergencies, you can use online banking and mobile banking apps from all banks, even on weekends or holidays, unless otherwise notified. Additionally, ATMs are available for cash withdrawals from any bank.

The RBI categorises bank holidays into three groups: under the Negotiable Instruments Act, under both the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. It's important to note that holiday observances can vary by state and may not apply uniformly across all banks.

Customers are advised to plan their bank visits accordingly to accommodate these closures.
