Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal recently became the talk of the town after he posted a job advertisement for a Chief of Staff role on social media with some unique terms and conditions attached. The entrepreneur said that the candidate will have to work without a salary for the first year of the job and donate Rs 20 lakh to charity, Feeding India.

This approach went viral on social media and users taunted Goyal for trying to exploit potential candidates by associating employment with a charitable contribution. However, former Zomato employee, Arnav Gupta, came to the Shark Tank judge’s defense and said this opportunity was priceless.

Gupta, a former Engineering Head of Consumer App, talked about the potential value of the opportunity. In a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, he said, “I know people are commenting various stupid things about "paid internship" Leaving this note here as someone who got the chance to work 1 year with @deepigoyal, if you're looking for a career in Management Consulting / Strategy, this is worth waaaay more than ₹20L!”

In a different post, Gupta also compared the donation requirement to MBA fees in India and stressed that no MBA programme in the country charges under Rs 20 lakh. However, this perspective was not taken lightly by Netizens.

One of the users commented, "No it’s not. What if the person pays 20L and, later after one year the founder decides he is not the right fit? What about those 20L? Yeah, I get it charity, this and that. But the person joining won’t be some highly experienced individual , they’ll likely be fresh graduates just starting their careers. Freshers and young professionals need money, not fame."
