Mangaluru news: A 23-year-old woman from Ullal has filed a police complaint against her husband, accusing him of pronouncing instant talaq and physically assaulting her. The incident reportedly occurred on November 8, according to the police.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Dilfaj, has been booked for violating provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, as well as sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The woman, Heena Fathima, has alleged that her husband not only harassed her but also demanded money.
As per the complaint, Heena married Dilfaj on April 20, 2019. At the time, her father provided her with 22 gold sovereigns and gave Rs 50,000 to her husband for purchasing a watch. The initial phase of the marriage was reportedly cordial, but problems arose when her husband allegedly began engaging in illicit relationships, as reported by PTI.
When she confronted him, Dilfaj reportedly assaulted her. Despite efforts by her family to resolve the issues, tensions escalated. On November 8, following an argument in which Heena’s father intervened, Dilfaj allegedly assaulted her again, called her father to their residence, and pronounced instant talaq, forcing her to leave the house.
Heena further accused her husband and father-in-law, Umarabba, of pressuring her to hand over Rs 8 lakh—an amount that had been invested in her name by her grandmother.
Based on the complaint, the Mangaluru Women's Police Station has registered a case and booked Dilfaj. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
