The US-based electric car maker Tesla is on its way to roll out India's first electric car this year with billionaire Elon Musk's company setting up a subsidiary named Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt. Ltd in Bengaluru, and now settled for a commercial space for office along with retail showrooms in Mumbai.


Earlier this year, the EV manufacturer had registered its office in Bengaluru and according to the Economic Times report, the company is in the process of setting up its office in the Lower Parel-Worli area in Mumbai.


As per the report, the company's production base will be set up in Karnataka while it is considering a few ready commercial spaces in Lower-Parel for a 40,000 sq ft office.

After Musk confirmed Tesla’s arrival in India, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in February also announced that the company will establish the production unit in the state.


On the other hand, the Cupertino-based Tesla has already started filling up top positions. As per the report, Manuj Khurana will be the Head - Policy and Business Development for India operations while Nishant Prasad will take the position of Charging Manager looking after Tesla's supercharging, destination charging, and home charging business.


Prasad was earlier head of Charging Infrastructure and Energy Storage at Ather Energy. While it has hired Chithra Thomas as its country HR Leader, who was earlier working at Walmart and Reliance Retail.


"Tesla India is moving full speed ahead with building a local team. We are excited to see the progress. Hoping to see you (Musk) in India when Tesla delivers the first cars," Tesla Club India said in a tweet on Wednesday.  



The company is expected to launch their entry level model – Model 3 electric sedan in the market initially.
