Delhi Capitals, who made a great start to this year's IPL, received a major setback after senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced he is 'taking a break' from IPL 2021.
Ashwin, on Monday, took to Twitter to inform that his family is currently struggling with Covid-19 and in this difficult time he wants to support them. The 34-year-old took this decision after Delhi Capitals' Super Over win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 match, yesterday.
"I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times," R Ashwin wrote in his tweet. "I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction," the spinner added.
"Extending our full support to you in these difficult times," Delhi Capitals wrote in a reply to Ashwin's tweet.
"Sending you and your family all the strength and prayers from all of us at Delhi Capitals," they added.
The 19th match of IPL 2021 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and it turned out to be a nail-biting thriller. In the end, Delhi defeated Hyderabad in the super over.
Batting first, Delhi Capitals scored 159 runs in 20 overs at loss of four wickets. In reply, Hyderabad scored 159 runs for seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. After this, the super over was played to decide the winner.
Delhi got a target of eight runs to chase in the super over. Captain Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan came to the open for Delhi and powered their team to a win off the final ball. This is Delhi's fourth win from five matches this season. They are now on the second spot in IPL 2021 Points Table.
