Stock exchanges are typically closed over weekends, but exceptions are made for crucial events such as the annual Union Budget.

Stock Markets Open On Budget Day: Stock markets will remain open on Saturday, February 1, 2025. This special trading session coincides with the presentation of the Union Budget 2025 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Stock exchanges are typically closed over weekends, but exceptions are made for crucial events such as the annual Union Budget, which often holds significant implications for the financial markets.

Stock Market Trading Hours On February 1, 2025

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has confirmed that trading will follow regular hours on Budget Day. You can check out the official circular below:

Is The Stock Market Open On Budget Day, February 1? Here's What NSE Has Announced

The schedule is as follows:

  • Pre-market trading: 9:00 am to 9:08 am
  • Regular session: 9:15 am to 3:30 pm

This arrangement ensures that participants can engage fully with market activities and respond to evolving trends throughout the day.

Why Trading On A Saturday?

Historical precedence justifies this decision. On February 1, 2020, and February 28, 2015, when the Budget was presented on weekends, stock markets remained operational to enable investors to react promptly to Government announcements.

The Union Budget is key in shaping market trends, impacting stock prices and investor sentiment. Policies related to sectors, tax structure changes, and government spending priorities announcements frequently trigger sharp fluctuations in market valuations. Therefore, allowing investors immediate access to trading during the Budget ensures they can respond in real time to financial developments.

When Will Budget Be Presented?

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will begin her presentation of the Union Budget at 11:00 am. Market participants and investors will closely monitor the announcements for insights into economic strategies, fiscal policies, and sector-specific incentives.

Advice For Traders

Market volatility is a given during such major financial events. Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath has advised traders to tread cautiously on a LinkedIn post.

"If you are an active trader, I guess you should reduce trading size during event days. That is, if you cannot stop yourself from trading,” Kamath remarked.

As the nation anticipates key announcements from the Budget, this special trading session is expected to be dynamic, with investors seeking immediate gains and strategic insights into market movements.
