New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issues refunds of over Rs 1,54,302 crores to more than 1.59 crore taxpayers from April 1, 2021 to January 10, 2022.


Income tax refunds of Rs 53,689 crores have been issued in 1,56,57,444 cases and corporate tax refunds of Rs 1,00,612 crores have been issued in 2,21,976 cases, said CBDT according to a tweet by ANI.






Meanwhile, the central government on Tuesday extended the deadline for filing income tax (I-T) returns for the assessment year 2021-22 (AY21-22) till March 15, 2022, a notification of the department of revenue of the finance ministry said.


“On consideration of difficulties reported by taxpayers/stakeholders due to Covid and in e-filing of Audit reports for AY 2021-22 under the IT Act, 1961, CBDT further extends due dates for filing of Audit reports & ITRs for AY 21-22,” said Income Tax Department in a tweet.


The deadline for filing of I-T returns have been extended for a few times. According to the notification of the revenue department, the first deadline for filing I-T returns was September 30, 2021. Later, the dates got revised because of the Covid-19 pandemic and for some technical reason.
