Blinkit, Swiggy Hit Raksha Bandhan Milestone: 693 Rakhis Sold Per Minute, Gifts Worth Rs 11,000

Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart surpassed their 2023 benchmarks, setting new highs for orders and customer engagement

As the festive season kicked off with Raksha Bandhan, quick commerce platforms Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart shattered sales records, demonstrating an increasing dependence on these services for last-minute festival shopping. Both companies surpassed their 2023 benchmarks, setting new highs for orders and customer engagement.

Blinkit Hits New Milestones

Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the platform's remarkable success. "We crossed all-time high orders in a day on Blinkit in a matter of minutes," Dhindsa shared. He also disclosed that Blinkit had achieved its highest-ever orders per minute (OPM), gross merchandise value (GMV), and chocolate sales.

A peak of 693 rakhis sold per minute was recorded, underscoring the strong demand during Raksha Bandhan. Additionally, Dhindsa revealed that Blinkit expanded its reach internationally, accepting orders from six countries, including the USA, Canada, and Germany.

Blinkit, which was formerly known as Grofers, was acquired by Zomato in 2022 in a $570 million all-stock deal.

Swiggy Instamart's Festive Surge

Swiggy Instamart also experienced a significant sales surge during the festival. Co-founder Phani Kishan reported that Raksha Bandhan set a new record for orders per minute, surpassing the platform's previous peak. "We expect to sell as many rakhis today as we have sold all year, and that's already five times more than last year," Kishan remarked.

He also shared a notable highlight from the day—a brother in Mumbai splurged Rs 11,320 on Rakhi gifts for his sister, marking the highest single spend the platform had seen so far. The order included toys from Hamleys, chocolates, flowers, and makeup.

Kishan added with a touch of nostalgia, "Somewhere between 'tu mera bhai nahi hai' and 'tu mera bhai nahi hai?' we all grew up."
