Hiring Alert: Apple May Create 5 Lakh Jobs In India In 3 Years

Hiring Alert: Apple's production plans in India are ambitious, with intentions to expand production capacity over five times to $40 billion (about Rs 3.32 lakh crore) within the next 4-5 years

Apple is set to make a major investment in India's workforce over the next three years, aiming to employ over 500,000 people through its vendors, quoting sources privy to the development news agency PTI reported. Currently, Apple's vendors and suppliers employ around 150,000 individuals in India, with Tata Electronics, which operates two plants for Apple, being the largest employer.

A senior government official shared with PTI that Apple's hiring acceleration in India is notable, with the company's vendors and component suppliers projected to employ five lakh people over the next three years. However, when approached for comment, Apple refrained from confirming the employment projections.

The US-based tech giant's production plans in India are ambitious, with intentions to expand production capacity over five times to an estimated $40 billion (about Rs 3.32 lakh crore) within the next 4-5 years.

Apple's market dominance in India was underscored by research from Counterpoint Research, which revealed that the company led the Indian market in 2023 in terms of revenue for the first time. Meanwhile, Samsung maintained its position as the leader in volume sales.

Apple's shipment figures have also been notable, surpassing the 10-million-unit mark in a calendar year for the first time, as reported by Counterpoint.

Additionally, Apple's iPhone exports from India experienced a remarkable surge, doubling from $6.27 billion in 2022-23 to $12.1 billion in 2023-24, according to data from trade intelligence platform The Trade Vision. This dramatic increase demonstrates Apple's growing presence and investment in the Indian market.

Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly axedm more than 600 employees in California in April. According to filings with the California Employment Development Department, these layoffs impacted individuals involved in projects concerning car and smartwatch displays as the company aims to wrap up these initiatives. The tech firm also fired hundreds of employees in February.
