Customs’ Hero, Deepak Pandit’s Biography Gets Closer To Completion

After more than 3 decades of service, Assistant Commissioner of Mumbai Customs and GST, Deepak Pandit’s life is all set to turn into a biographical book.

Announced through a cinematic trailer in 2021, which was received well by the audience, Deepak Pandit’s biography, titled ‘White-The Man Beyond the Uniform’, is being penned by authors Sheetal Bhan and Aamir Bengali. The writers have been quoted to have been involved in in-depth research for the book, which has unraveled many cinematic and riveting stories of Mr. Pandit’s life. From his days as the captain of the J&K Ranji trophy team and later on the selector of the junior Indian cricket team to his years of heroic service in the Mumbai Customs department, where he waged war against corruption and the corrupt, his story delves deep into these diverse worlds and brings out myriad flavours.                 

“Every time I felt that I had amassed enough material, I would receive a call from some random person who would want to speak about Deepak's uncle and give me more meat on his heroics and the fear that he imparted throughout the department during his years of service. Writing this biography and researching on his life and the world of customs have been perpetuating simultaneously. So currently, Sheetal and I are nearing the completion of the book and are hoping to enter the next phase soon”, said Aamir.      

Given the cinematic drama in the officer’s life, it is said that a few film producers have approached the family with the intention of turning the book into a biopic.
