Volkswagen has announced that it will launch an electric ID4 SUV in India. It has officially showcased the ID4 electric SUV in India and will be its first one. The ID4 is a born electric SUV, and for that, it comes with various benefits instead of being converted from an ICE platform.

The ID4 is roughly 4.5m in length comes with a crossover shape and has a blanked-off grille as well. The ID4 also gets full-length lighting at the rear. The interiors are spacious and come with a large touchscreen while there is a large use of digital controls on the inside while there is a floating centre console too. Space-wise, the ID4 has a large rear seat and an airy cabin with a long wheelbase.

While Volkswagen has not revealed the specifications and the exact details, the ID4 will most likely come to India with the top-end dual motor configuration along with a large 77kWh battery pack. Expect the range to be in the region of 400-500 km too.

Volkswagen will most likely import the ID4 to India while the carmaker can make some changes for the car to suit our market further. The ID4 will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 plus the Volvo XC40 Recharge amongst others. Expect prices to be around 40-50 lakh when the ID4 eventually comes to India later in the year.

Volkswagen also showed new variants of the Taigun and the Virtus while going forward the German carmaker will continue to launch more premium products. Being their first electric offering, the ID4 will be positioned above the Tiguan as their most premium product.
