MG Motor ZS EV: The price range for the EV would be Rs 10-15 lakh and of course it would be an SUV. It will be an electric crossover and based on a global platform but localized for India.

MG Motor has announced its next new product and it is a follow-up to the ZS EV. Yes, MG's next product is an EV and it's coming soon. The car-maker has announced that it will be launching the EV within the next financial year.

The price range for the EV would be Rs 10-15 lakh and of course it would be an SUV. It will be an electric crossover and based on a global platform but localized for India. Localization is very important in order to price EVs at an attractive level. EVs are expensive, having expensive batteries and other components. The higher localization will bring down these costs. The battery, motor and other parts would be localized by MG and would be based with an aim to provide mass electric mobility.

The other crucial bit is that the range, design and other factors are made for India along with being designed with our tastes in mind. While the price range is similar to the Tata Nexon EV, we expect the MG EV crossover to offer a range like the ZS or provide a higher range. It remains to be seen how the charging network plays up but we expect the new MG EV to have a quick charge facility and yes, it would also come with charging infrastructure for home/office charging.

With higher fuel costs, EV are an answer and affordable EVs will drive home that point further. MG currently has the ZS operating at a higher price bracket but it has seen strong sales. The upcoming affordable EV might just change things at a more accessible price point.
