This year, there will be two solar eclipses. One took place in the month of April, while the second, known as the 'Kankan Suryagrahan', is expected to take place  in October. Let's find out the date and timing of this year's second solar eclipse.

Surya Grahan 2023: Date

The second solar eclipse of the year is set to take place on 14th October 2023. This will last for approximately 5 minutes and will be visible in various places, including North America (excluding certain regions), Canada, British Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Barbados, Peru, Uruguay, Antigua, Venezuela, Jamaica, Haiti, Paraguay, Brazil, Dominica, Bahamas, and others.

Partial Solar eclipse beginning: 08:33 PM

Full Solar eclipse beginning: 09:40 PM

Maximum annular Solar eclipse: 11:29 PM

Full eclipse ending: 01:18 AM

Partial eclipse ending: 02:25 AM

Solar Eclipse 2023: Sutak Kaal:

According to scriptures, when a solar eclipse occurs, a purification period called 'Sutak' starts 12 hours before the eclipse and continues until the eclipse ends. Therefore, on 14th October, the "Sutak" period will commence at 8:33 AM. During this period, one should avoid performing puja or touching idols. Temples also remain closed for devotees during the 'Sutak' time.

Solar Eclipse 2023: Things To Avoid

During a solar eclipse, there are several important considerations to keep in mind. Some actions should be followed, while others must be avoided during this phase:

  • Avoid sleeping during the solar eclipse duration, especially for elders and individuals who are unwell. According to astrology, it can have malefic effects on health.
  • It is essential to prohibit cooking or eating food during the eclipse. Consuming food during this time may have detrimental effects on your health in the long run.
  • Refrain from engaging in auspicious tasks such as buying property or scheduling muhurats during Solar Eclipse 2023. These actions could lead to inauspicious outcomes and troubles in the future.
  • As per astrology, it is advisable not to touch or worship deities during the eclipse. After the solar eclipse period, it is recommended to cleanse everything and then offer prayers.
  • The Tulsi plant holds sacred significance in astrology. Therefore, avoid watering or touching it during the Solar eclipse timing in 2023.
  • Pregnant women should refrain from watching the eclipse and should avoid going out or engaging in activities that involve direct exposure to the Sun.
