Sakat Chauth 2024: In Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is revered as the primary deity, and his worship is considered essential for the success of any endeavor. According to the Hindi Panchang, there are 12 Sankashti Chaturthi fasts observed throughout the year, dedicated to Lord Ganesha.

While all Sankashti Chaturthi days hold significance, the one occurring in the month of Magha, known as Sakat Chauth or Lambodara Sankashti Chaturthi, is particularly special and is also referred to as the Big Chaturthi. It is believed that observing this fast yields the benefits of all Chaturthi fasts throughout the year. 

The first Sakat Chauth, deditated to Lord Ganesha, falls on January 29 this year. Women observe a Nirjala fast from sunrise to moonrise on this day, praying for the well-being of their children. Worshipping the moon is considered special during the Sakat Chauth fast.

• On the night of Sakat Chauth, following the moonrise, here are some rituals they you need to follow:
• After the moonrise on the night of Sakat Chauth, fill a silver or brass vessel with water.
• Then add raw cow's milk, rice grains (akshat), and white flowers to it.
• After that, meditate on the moon and offer them arghya (ritual offering of water).
• Pray for the resolution of your difficulties and for the happy life of your offspring.
• Remember not to let the moonlight fall on your feet while offering arghya.
• After offering arghya, conclude your fast.

In astrology, the moon is considered the significator of the mind. Offering arghya to the moon helps dispel negative thoughts from the mind and also alleviates any Chandra dosha (affliction of the moon) in the horoscope.
