Ramadan 2024: Moon Sighted In India- Check Sehri, Iftar Timings

Members of the Muslim community will be observing fasts from March 12 for the next 29 or 30 days, until Eid.

The holy month of Ramadan, also known as Ramzan, has commenced in Mumbai and various parts of the country, with the moon being sighted today. With this, the fasting period begins for the Muslin community. Taraweeh will commence tonight and continue throughout the remaining nights of Ramadan until Eid. Members of the Muslim community will be observing fasts from March 12 for the next 29 or 30 days, until the sighting of the moon for Eid.

Taraweeh prayers take place after the evening prayers and involve the recitation of the Quran. The sense of community during Ramadan is further reflected in the tradition of Iftar, the meal that breaks the fast at sunset. Families and friends come together to share this meal, typically starting with dates and water, followed by a diverse array of dishes.

Ramadan 2024: Sehri, Iftar timings in different cities

Sehri or Suhoor is the early morning meal that Muslims take before the Fajr (morning) prayer, signifying the commencement of the daily fasting period throughout Ramadan 2024. Iftar is the celebratory moment when Muslims conclude their fast at sunset, following the Maghrib (evening) prayer.

Roza rules to follow during fasting :

  • Observe fasting from sunrise to sunset and refrain from consuming anything during this period.
  • Fasting is not just about staying hungry; it also includes fasting of the eyes, ears, and tongue. Therefore, repent from seeing, hearing, or speaking evil during fasting.
  • Avoid engaging in physical intimacy or harbouring negative thoughts during fasting, as this may invalidate the fast.
  • Refrain from lying, slandering, giving false testimony, backbiting, or taking false oaths during fasting.
