Godavari, Krishna Rivers In Spate, High Alert In Andhra Pradesh
Heavy flood water has reached the Dhavaleshwaram Cotton Barrage near Rajahmundry.
Hyderabad: Rain continues to lash in Andhra Pradesh. Along with the monsoon spread across the state. The low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal will result in heavy rainfall. Also, flood water is reaching the rivers due to heavy rains.
Due to this, the flow in rivers like Godavari and Krishna has increased to an unprecedented level. Officials were alerted as the weather department informed that the same situation would continue for two more days. While heavy rains are falling in North Coastal, Krishna and Guntur, light to moderate rains are falling in South Coastal and Rayalaseema districts.
In addition to the incessant rains, the Godavari is flowing furiously at the Polavaram project due to the effect of the flood coming from above. Due to the flood, lakhs of cusecs flow into the sea through the Polavaram spillway. Along with the rains fall in the upper areas, all the water is being released downstream due to the incessant rains in the Krishna catchment areas.

Heavy flood water has reached the Dhavaleshwaram Cotton Barrage near Rajahmundry. The water level of the Dhavaleshwaram barrage has reached 9.60 feet. Also, 175 gates were lifted, and 7.60 lakh cusecs of water were released downstream. Due to this, the flood water entered the villages of Konaseema. Gandi Pochamma temple in Devipatnam was submerged. Many areas have been flooded in Nidadavolu and Tadepalligudem areas under Yerrakaluva.
Due to rains in West Godavari, a particular control room has been set up in the collectorate. It is raining extensively in the district. Heavy flood water is coming to Yerrakaluva and Tammileru reservoirs. Officials advise people to be alert as rivers are overflowing in agency areas. It is cautioned not to underestimate the flow of water while crossing streams. Roads are already flooded in Polavaram flood zones.
The first emergency alert was issued after the Godavari water level rose in Koonavaram. The situation in Polavaram flood zones is being monitored from time to time. Holidays have been declared for schools in Koonavaram, Chintoor, VR Puram and Etapaka mandals until the floods recede.
Heavy rains lash Vijayawada. Flood water from Munneru, Paleru and Budameru is coming to the Krishna river. As there is no possibility of storing water below the Prakasam barrage, the entire flood flow is released into the sea. 45 gates of the barrage are being lifted, and 40 thousand cusecs of water is being released downstream.
