TDP Supporters, Workers Stage Protest Against Chandrababu Naidu's Arrest In Corruption Case

After the arrest of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in an alleged corruption case, TDP leaders and workers staged a protest against it.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and workers staged a protest following the arrest of party supremo and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in connection with an alleged corruption case. TDP workers were seen protesting in Amaravati.

Earlier in the day, TDP supporters staged a protest at the Peddagadili BRTS road in Visakhapatnam against Naidu’s arrest. They also raised slogans against the YSRCP and CM YS Jagan Reddy. The protestors were later detained by the police.

The Criminal Investigation Department arrested former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday in a corruption case. The former CM was arrested around 6 a.m. from the R K Function Hall at Gnanapuram in Nandyala town, said an official, as per a PTI report.

Naidu's counsel said they will approach the High Court for bail. "CID has taken Chandrababu for a medical check-up after high blood pressure and diabetes were detected. We are approaching the High Court for bail," said the counsel, as per an ANI report.

High drama was witnessed in Nandyal district when the police officials reached to arrest Naidu in connection to the alleged corruption charges as a group of workers got into an argument with the policemen. The workers questioned the late-night action against the TDP chief, and a minor scuffle also took place between the two parties.

CID Additional DGP N.Sanjay said, "September 9th at around 6 am we arrested the former Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu in connection with the fraud in the Skill Development Corporation which was formed in 2014. It was used to siphon off money to personal accounts. Rs 550 crore is the total value of the scam. Because of the involvement of N Chandrababu Naidu as the prime conspirator he has been arrested today. His arrest is necessary to investigate the overall details of the scam. The scam is of 90 per cent investment from private companies & 10 per cent from govt".

Speaking on Naidu's arrest, YSRCP General Secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said, "This morning N Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the economic offence wing of Andhra Pradesh CID in the Skill Development cooperation scam in which Rs 371 crore of public money was siphoned off...This was already proved by central agencies years back...During the investigation, they found that then-CM N Chandrababu Naidu was directly involved in this scam...This case revolves around the establishment of clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of Rs 3,300 crores..."
