Andhra Pradesh: Mondelez India To Expand Plant At Cost Of Rs 1,600 Cr In Tirupati

Over the next three years, additional chocolate making capacity will propel Mondelez's Sri City plant to emerge as one of its largest production plants globally and create jobs locally.

Snack company Mondelez India is expanding its manufacturing plant's capacity at Sri City in Tirupati district, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy virtually took part in the foundation stone-laying ceremony on Tuesday, PTI reported. Mondelez India is making an investment of Rs 1,600 crore in a project that was initially announced during the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Visakhapatnam is taking off now.

"The company will invest Rs 1,600 crore in building a new chocolate capacity plant to meet the rising demand in India," said an official from Mondelez India in a press note.

Over the next three years, additional chocolate making capacity will propel Mondelez's Sri City plant to emerge as one of its largest production plants globally and create jobs locally. With a history of 75 years in India, Mondelez is renowned for its wide range of products, including Cadbury Dairy Milk, Oreo biscuits, Bournvita, and many others.

Apart from Mondelez's endeavours, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a groundnut processing unit in Chigicherala village, Dharmavaram, within the Sri Satya Sai district. Additionally, three tomato processing units are being established in Kalyandurgam and Kundurpi mandals in the Anantapur district, as well as Chennekothapalli in the Sri Sathya Sai district.

The groundnut processing unit will adopt a plug-and-play model, requiring an investment of Rs 75 crore. It aims to support the production of oil, peanut butter, candied peanut bars, roasted peanuts, and oil cake.Equipped with a capacity of 55,620 MT, the unit will offer employment to 200 people.

Meanwhile, the tomato processing units, to be built at Rs 5.5 crore each, will possess an annual capacity of 3,600 tonnes. This initiative will benefit 3,588 farmers, enabling them to efficiently sort, wash, dry, and segregate 1.5 MT of tomatoes per hour, among other processes.

Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated 43 cold storage facilities and 421 collection centres. These facilities, constructed at a cost of Rs 63 crore, are geared towards providing enhanced post-harvest facilities for farmers, ensuring better storage and preservation of their produce.

Furthermore, Reddy also inaugurated four primary processing centres under ‘Operation Greens’ for tomatoes. Additionally, a millet processing unit and 100 onion solar dehydration units, operating under the microindustry category, were also inaugurated during this event.
