Andhra Pradesh: Govt Rolls Back Three Capital Bill, CM Jagan To Announce In Assembly

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is expected to announce the withdrawal of the three capitals bill in the Assembly soon.

Andhra Pradesh: The YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh on Monday informed that the decision to divide the state into three administrative capitals is being rescinded and Amaravati will remain its only capital. The Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh Subrahmanyam Sriram apprised the High Court about the matter.

The High Court division bench headed by Chief Justice PK Mishra asked the Advocate General to file a detailed affidavit and adjourned the hearing till 2.30pm.

Minister for Civil Supplies Kodali Nani said that technically there are a lot of problems and hence the decision of three capitals has been withdrawn by the state government.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will announce the decision of the three capitals in the Assembly shortly, said the AG.

Last year, the then governor, Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, had signed two Bills - the Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020, and the AP Capital Region Development Authority (Repeal) Bill, 2020 that involved setting up executive, legislative and judicial capitals at Vishakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool respectively.

The state government hopes to end the assembly sessions by today due to floods. It seems that a decision will be taken in the cabinet in the case of the bill of three capitals. The issue of providing Rs 2,000 aid to flood victims and the purchase of solar power will also be discussed.

Meanwhile, today's assembly session (third day) started 10 minutes late. The Speaker announced that several questions were being postponed due to ministers and MLAs visiting the flood-affected areas.
