Andhra Pradesh: Four Police Officers Suspended On Corruption Charges In Tirupati
Following a recent complaint by ITC group representatives, Tirupati SP ordered a departmental enquiry.
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Police suspended a Circle Inspector and 3 Sub Inspectors on Wednesday on corruption charges in the Tirupati district. Tirupati SP P Parameswara Reddy said that CI M Subramanyam, Sub Inspectors I Veeresh, M Ramakrishna and B Ramakrishna Reddy conspired with a group of private individuals to forcibly vacate a godown and attempt to illegally encash a shipment of cigarettes worth Rs 20 lakh that belonged to the ITC Limited.
Police said, a resident of Hyderabad identified as DG Nishanth owned a two-floor building at Srinivasapuram locality in Tirupati, which he had leased to a resident of Chennai identified as Muthu Kumar, a distributor of ITC products.
When DG Nishanth wanted to sell off his building, the tenant Muthu Kumar refused to vacate and tried to claim that property with the help of real estate businessman Manikanta. During this, they reached the police station.

Tiruchanoor SI I Veeresh intervened and vacated the building. Later he illegally took possession of ITC's cigarette consignment worth Rs 20 lakh and encashed it.
SI I Veeresh gave some of the money obtained unlawfully to his fellow officers at the Tiruchanoor police station, identified as CI M Subramanyam. SI M Ramakrishna and SI B Ramakrishna Reddy.

Following the outcome of the detailed inquiry, Tirupati SP P Parameswara Reddy suspended four cops with immediate effect on Wednesday. In addition, two other persons were taken into custody, and a case was registered.
