Hyderabad: An elderly man was murdered in Andhra Pradesh's Tirumala, said the police on Thursday. The victim is identified as K Saravana, a resident of Arani in Tamil Nadu. The incident took place at the waiting hall of the Sri Venkateshwara Museum, which is a high-security area in Tirumala.


Saravana, who was sleeping in the museum, was brutally crushed to death with a boulder. The incident came to light when the victim was found dead by the TTD vigilance team on Thursday morning. The team informed the local police, after which the police personnel rushed to the spot. The preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased had a criminal record and was working as a marriage contractor in Tirumala for the last few years.


The incident is believed to have taken place in the wee hours on Thursday.

With the help of CCTV, the police arrested the culprit, who is identified as Kandaswamy, within two hours near Alipiri. The culprit is a resident of Tamil Nadu's Vellore. In the CCTV footage, it is seen that the culprit reaches the waiting hall and takes a heavy boulder to crush the sleeping man.


Police shifted the body of the victim to Ruia hospital for autopsy. They registered a case and took up the investigation. The accused was identified as Kandaswamy. The victim was a devotee from Tamil Nadu. Police were probing the motive behind the murder.
