Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for Ramayapatnam Port and performed Bhumi Puja on Wednesday. AP Water Resources Minister Ambati Rambabu and IT Minister Gudivada Amarnath were present at the event along with the chief minister.


Ramayapatnam is a coastal village in Gudluru Mandal of Nellore District. The port is located 4.5 km from the National Highway and 93 km North of Krishnapatnam Port.


After laying the foundation stone, CM Jagan said that they have acquired 850 acres of land for Ramayapatnam Port and started work with a detailed project report (DPR). He said that currently, four berths are being constructed in the first phase of the port, for which an investment of Rs.3,740 crores is being made. This project is being constructed under the AP Maritime Board of the State Government, which will export 25 million tonnes per year. 


The Ramayapatnam port's initial cargo capacity is 25,000 MT, which rises to 50,000 MT when all ten berths are utilised, said Jagan. He said that the construction of the port would improve the local job opportunities, and through this, the industries that would be built get benefits.

He said that transport costs would also be greatly reduced due to the port. Jagan said that 75 per cent of the jobs in the industries coming here would go to locals.


Ramayapatnam Port will be helpful in industrial, commercial and transport services to many districts of Rayalaseema, including Prakasam, Nellore, Guntur, and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad in Telangana.
