Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy Formally Announces Increase In Pensions

At the event, CM Reddy formally launched the increased social pension, which increased from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 2,750 per month.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appealed to people at a public meeting in Rajahmundry to see the qualitative difference between the present YSRCP government and the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government.

While addressing a gathering, Reddy formally announced the increase in social pension, which increased from Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,750 per month.

Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said, "The increase in pension scheme will benefit the downtrodden, including the differently abled, widows, the aged, non-earning loners, AIDS-affected people, bed-ridden people, and even dialysis patients."

"People should see the difference between his welfare governance, which has been disbursing monthly pensions ranging from Rs 2750 to Rs 10,000 to different sections of people, and the TDP rule that allowed Janma Bhoomi Committees to fix rates for disbursing welfare benefits," The Andhra Pradesh CM said.

CM Jagan further emphasised that Andhra Pradesh is the only state that provides pensions of this scale. "After the YSRCP came to power, we increased the number of beneficiaries significantly. In the previous government, pensions worth only Rs 1,000 was given to only 39 lakh people. Whereas, in our government, Rs 1,765 crore has been allocated to the disbursement of monthly pensions. We have spent Rs 62,500 crores on pensions in the last three and a half years, compared to Rs 400 crores spent by Chandrababu Naidu during his tenure," Reddy added.

CM Jagan took cognizance of the Guntur tragedy, in which three women died while attending an event organised by the TDP, and strongly attacked the opposition for evading responsibility for the incident and for being indifferent to people’s suffering.

CM Jagan went on to accuse TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu of being a repeat offender who has failed to learn from his mistakes in the past.
