Hyderabad: Opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu claimed that the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh was defrauding the people in the name of the Jagananna Sampoorna Gruha Hakku scheme. He expressed anger over the OTS (One Time Settlement) system in the registration of houses.
Naidu was speaking to the media at the TDP headquarters in Mangalagiri and questioned the government over the OTS scheme. He showed a video of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy who had said during his election campaign that he would waive the people's debt on houses.
Naidu said that the pucca housing scheme for the poor was introduced during the NT Rama Rao rule. He alleged that the YSRCP government is now extorting money from the beneficiaries and then claiming credit for giving it away for free.
Naidu said that the registration process followed by the government is not valid. He added that the registrations in the village secretariat are illegal, adding that the subregister office should actually do the registrations.
The TDP chairman also castigated the YSRCP government, saying they failed to build an Ambedkar statue in the capital's Amaravati district. During the TDP rule, 20 acres of land were identified for the construction of the Ambedkar statue. Naidu accused the current government of opposing the cause.
It is learnt that the poor people who have taken loans and built houses on both government-owned and private land are still having difficulty obtaining documentation. In light of this, the OTS programme has given them much hope in obtaining the documents. The YSRCP government has said the documents can be registered by making token payments on previous debts.
