New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been ordered to submit its probe report on the Nagaland firing case within a month.
Addressing the Lok Sabha on the incident, which left 13 civilians and a jawan dead, Amit Shah said the vehicle carrying the villagers was "signalled to stop but it tried to flee".
"Army had received info on movement of extremists in Oting, Mon. On that basis, 21 commandos laid an ambush in suspected area. A vehicle reached there, it was signalled to stop but it tried to flee. On suspicion of the vehicle carrying extremists, it was fired upon," Amit Shah said in Lok Sabha.

"Six out of the eight people in vehicle died. It was later found to be a case of mistaken identity. Two others who were injured were taken to nearest health centre by Army. After receiving news of this, local villagers surrounded the Army unit, set two vehicles on fire and attacked them," Amit Shah said.
One soldier died and several others were injured in the incident. The Home Minister said security forces had to resort to firing for self-defence and to disperse crowd.
"This caused death of seven more civilians, and some others were injured. Local administration and police tried to bring the situation to normalcy," he said.
"After the incident, on December 5 evening, an agitated crowd of around 250 people vandalised the company operating base (COB) of Assam Rifles in Mon city and set the COB building on fire. Assam Rifles had to fire bullets to disperse the crowd. This caused death of one more civilian," Amit Shah said.
Amit Shah said the current situation was tense but under control.
On Saturday evening, Army personnel mistook coal mine workers returning home in a pick-up van to be insurgents belonging to the Yung Aung faction of the banned outfit NSCN (K), about whose movements they had been tipped off, and opened fire, killing six people.
Opposition parties, including the Congress, DMK, SP, BSP, NCP, staged a walk out after the Home Minister's statement on the Nagaland incident in Lok Sabha.
