MHNVS Charan (22), who worked for a leading IT firm at Pocharam, was driving the vehicle when the accident happened, with his two friends riding pillion. Charan, originally from a village in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, was employed at a prominent IT firm in Pocharam, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He and his friends were staying in a nearby township. On the weekend, nine friends on three motorcycles came to the city.
According to the police, the trio went to see the new Secretariat and the recently installed statue of Ambedkar. After spending some time at Tank Bund, they decided to go to Cable Bridge. Since they were not familiar with the city, they opened Google Maps on their phones to reach their destination. Charan headed towards Mehdipatnam and took the PVNR Expressway without realizing that two-wheelers were prohibited on this stretch.
After traveling two to three kilometers on the expressway, the trio realized they were going in the wrong direction. Charan tried to get off the expressway by taking a ramp at Pillar Number 82. However, a car collided with their bike. Charan sustained critical injuries and was taken to a private hospital, where he succumbed. His two friends sustained minor injuries.
