Sunita Kejriwal Kickstarts AAP's LS Poll Campaign With Roadshow In East Delhi, Claims Delhi CM 'Jailed Because....'

Sunita Kejriwal held a roadshow in East Delhi as she kickstarted the campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital today.

Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has kickstarted the Lok Sabha polls campaign for the Aam Aadmi Party in the absence of her husband, who is currently lodged in the Tihar jail after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. Today, she held her maiden roadshow in East Delhi, where she campaigned for the constituency's candidate Kuldeep Kumar.

Addressing the supporters, she said, “Your CM and my husband, Arvind Kejriwal, has been kept in jail for the past one month. No court has declared him guilty and an investigation is going on. If the investigation goes on for 10 years, then will he be kept in jail for 10 years?”

She further alleged that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was jailed because he built schools, provided free electricity, and opened Mohalla Clinics, news agency PTI reported.

"Earlier, a person was sent to jail only once he/she was found guilty by court. However, they (BJP-led central government) have devised a new formula under which a person would be kept in jail till the case goes on. This is complete dictatorship," she further alleged, as quoted by PTI.

On AAP cadres staging the 'Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se' protest campaign, Kuldeep Kumar said "CM Arvind Kejriwal who worked to provide the best school, and free- electricity to Delhiites has been trapped in a frivolous case by BJP. From today onwards Sunita Kejriwal's roadshow will begin; she is going to seek support and blessings from the Delhi people to fight against this government."

“The people of Delhi love Arvind Kejriwal. He is like a son and brother to them. Sunita Kejriwal, his wife, is going to come to seek blessings for him, and the people of Delhi have come to bless him,” Delhi Minister Atishi told PTI.

Sunita Kejriwal To Spearhead AAP's Lok Sabha Campaign In Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat

Sunita Kejriwal will now spearhead AAP's Lok Sabha campaign in Delhi and other states including Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.

The announcement regarding Sunita Kejriwal joining the poll blitz for AAP was made by Delhi Minister Atishi during a press conference on Friday.

"Sunita will seek votes and blessings for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the absence of her husband who is in judicial custody. In protest against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal will campaign to seek blessings for him and to seek votes for AAP candidates. She will seek blessings for him from the people of Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat and Haryana," she said.

After today's East Delhi roadshow, the AAP supremo's wife will hold another roadshow in the West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday, April 28.

Ever since the Delhi CM's arrest, Sunita Kejriwal, who is a retired IRS Officer, has been playing a major role in the party, acting as a link between her husband and the AAP and its MLAs and is now spearheading AAP's campaigning, with an aim to fill in the shoes of her incarcerated husband.

AAP is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the Congress in Delhi. The grand old party has fielded its candidates in North East Delhi, North West Delhi, and Chandni Chowk seats, whereas AAP has fielded its candidates in East Delhi, West Delhi, New Delhi, and South Delhi seats.

In Gujarat, the AAP is contesting from two seats — Bharuch and Bhavnagar, while in Haryana it has fielded just one candidate from Kurukshetra. However, in Punjab, AAP is fighting solo and is contesting all 13 seats.

After the AAP chief's arrest, Sunita Kejriwal has held three digital media briefings, communicating Arvind Kejriwal's messages to the people and the ministers of the Delhi cabinet.

In March and earlier this month, she addressed rallies of the I.N.D.I.A bloc in Delhi and Jharkhand, where she declared six guarantees of the AAP convener.
