Woman charters a plane exclusively to rescue 300 dogs, cats
Virgin Islands [U.S.A.], September 27 (ANI): In an altruistic act in a risky scenario, an American woman named Sali Gear chartered a plane exclusively to bring over 300 dogs and cats back from the U.S. Virgin Islands damaged by Hurricane Irma.
A group of donors and Gear banded together to charter a plane for $112,000 from Miami, along with raising $5,000 for carriers for all the pups, according to Metro.
Gear rescued over 300 cats and dogs and flew back to Miami, where 250 volunteers cared for them.
"I did it because it had to be done, I'm exhausted emotionally, physically - but spiritually, I'm not,' Gear told the Virginian Pilot.
Gear co-owns Island Dog Rescue, a nonprofit organisation that specialises in saving dogs from the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Gear planned to fly over each day to bring 20 dogs when Hurricane Irma caused serious damage to the islands.
Nevertheless, it was hurricane Maria that made Gear to firm her mind up to act swiftly and rescue just as many dogs all in one go, by cutting down on multiple trips. (ANI)
