Nepal PM postpones national address

Kathmandu [Nepal], Feb 14 (ANI): Nepali Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will address the nation on Thursday.

The address was earlier scheduled for Wednesday evening.

"About 10 pages long address to the nation was prepared for Wednesday but due to some logistic problems it was cancelled," a source from Deuba's official Baluwatar residence told ANI.

"The address will now commence after the cabinet meeting which is called at 9 AM tomorrow morning at PM's residence," PM Deuba's press advisor Govinda Pariyar informed.

Wednesday's cabinet meeting also ended in confusion and vacuum as Prime Minister Deuba had to attend a function organised by the Nepalese Army late in the evening.

PM Deuba assumed to power last year after Pushpa Kamal Dahal stepped down.

Thursday's address to the nation is expected to include the resignation announcement from the Prime Minister, who in the last days of his tenure, has been criticized heavily for the extortion of the government funds.

The pressure has been building on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to stop the misuse of the government funds.

As per the constitution of Nepal, promulgated in 2015, the process of new government formation starts after the formal submission of election result to the President by the Election Commision.

After the incumbent government is dissolved, new government under the leadership of KP Sharma Oli will take over, thereby forming the very first government of Nepal after it started the practice of federal governance.(ANI)
