India-Switzerland talk trade and economic cooperation

Davos [Switzerland], January 23 (ANI): India and Switzerland are negotiating the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) in a bid to embolden the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

This was informed by MEA Secretary (Economic Relations) and Foreign Secretary-designate Vijay K. Gokhale.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Alain Berset exchanged views on how to expand the trade and economic cooperation [between the two nations] and as you know we are negotiating the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with Switzerland, the two leaders held a discussion on how to move it forward," Gokhale said

Furthermore, Gokhale underscored that the two leaders also held discussions on the Paris Climate Change accord wherein Prime Minister Modi spoke of his "ambitious plans for the renewable energy".

The secretary branded the meeting with the Swiss President, which vaguely lasted about one hour, as "satisfactory."

"Swiss President described the relation with India as very special. He spoke of democracy and diversity as two values that bind the two countries together," said Gokhale.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Swiss President Alain Berset here and discussed ways to deepen bilateral ties on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual summit.

"On reaching Davos, held talks with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr @alain_berset. We reviewed the scope of our bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to deepen it even further," Modi said in a tweet.(ANI)
