Exhibition to highlight evolution of female footwear

Washington D.C [USA] Apr 15(ANI): We all know that women from all around the world wear footwear to save their feet from the earth but soon this notion is going to change with the opening of an exbhition at the New-York Historical Society.

The exhibition 'Walk This Way' opening on April 20 will tell us that shoes are not only meant for protection but it can also give us power, prestige, sex appeal and liberation.

It will highlight almost 100 pairs of pumps, a variety of mules and more work from footwear designer Stuart Weitzman's private collection of historic shoes, besides showcasing examples from the designer's exclusive private collection, assembled over almost three decades.

The show will also underscore as to how the evolution of feminine footwear coincides with women's changing roles in the society.

"You really see the power of what the women's movement did to fashion because you don't see it any stronger anywhere than in footwear. After men kept pushing them into shoes that were killing them, women started to change the footwear industry and demanding shoes that actually felt good," designer Weitzman told The New York Post.

"The exhibition considers the story of the shoe from the perspectives of collection, consumption, presentation, and production with more than 100 pairs of shoes on view," New York Historical Society said in its official website.

The exhibition will bring out the trends in American economic history, from industrialization to the rise of consumer culture, with a focus on women's contributions as makers, designers, and entrepreneurs. (ANI)
