Can't even think of replacing my brother, says Shehbaz Sharif
Islamabad [Pakistan], Mar 14 (ANI): The brother of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Province Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that he would never even think of taking the place of his brother in any political sphere and referred him as the "Quaid" (leader for life).
"I believe Nawaz Sharif is the only Pakistani politician and leader that can be called (Muhammad Ali) Jinnah's political heir. We are lucky to have been blessed with a Quaid [leader] like Nawaz Sharif," he said after the general council's meeting on Tuesday, where he was elected as the president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Shehbaz praised his brother by saying that he made Pakistan "invincible" through the development of atomic weapons and "eliminating" terrorism completely, The Dawn reported.
Commenting that he got to serve the people better because of Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz added, "My political upbringing by Nawaz Sharif is an asset of my life. I assure you that with the guidance of the Quaid [leader] I will do my best to serve the people and the party."
Regarding Pakistan's Supreme Court's (SC) decision to remove Nawaz Sharif from the post of the PML-N president, his brother reiterated that he would get justice "one day."
On Tuesday, Shehbaz was been elected as the new president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) by the party's general council. He had contested for the party seat unopposed.
The PML-N on February 27 appointed Shehbaz as its acting president while Nawaz Sharif was named the party's "Quaid (leader) for life."
The development comes after the Pakistan SC disqualified Nawaz Sharif from the post of PML-N party chief last month, saying all decisions made by him "now stand null and void." (ANI)
