What Is The 'Cash For Query' Case Involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra? 10 Points

TMC's Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra has been accused of accepting 'bribes' to ask questions in Parliament on behalf of a businessman, targeting the Adani Group.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey first brought the charges against Moitra, based on 'information' provided by lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai.

Businessman Darshan Hiranandani subsequently submitted a 'sworn affidavit', saying Moitra demanded cash and expensive gifts from him for asking questions in the House.

Hiranandani also accused MP Moitra of giving him her Parliament login and password to 'directly' post questions.

Dubey wrote a letter to Speaker Om Birla early October 2023, who then referred the matter to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee.

In his 2-page letter, Dubey said 50 out of 61 questions Moitra asked in Lok Sabha were focused on the Adani Group.

Mahua Moitra has denied all the allegations against her, and said she is ready to face any kind of inquiry.

Lawyer Dehadrai, who was once close to Moitra, has also accused her of 'kidnapping' his dog Henry and keeping it locked at her residence 'to deter CBI from entering'.

The MP has since called Dehadrai a 'jilted ex' and his allegations 'lies'.

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, headed by BJP's Vinod Kumar Sonkar, is holding its first meeting on Thursday, October 26, 2023, to hear the matter.
