Volunteers distribute drinking water to stranded people
Several parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were reeling from floods following incessant showers over the past few days. The flood situation in Bihar has worsen after heavy rains over the weekend lashed the northern state of India and hit most of the population living in the region. Many districts of the Bihar, including the state capital Patna, are witnessing a flood-like situation, bringing normal business to a grinding halt and disrupting rail and road traffic in several places. The most parts of the city remained submerged even as the state-wide death toll mounted to 40 on Tuesday. The weather department has, meanwhile, forecast a long delayed withdrawal of monsoon and more rains for Patna. Earlier yesterday, Chief Minister Kumar conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 19 teams in 14 districts of Bihar and has evacuated more than 4,000 people including women, patients, children and elderly and shifted to the safer places by NDRF in Patna.
