On Sunday night, thousands of people took to the streets in the cities and towns of Belarus, protesting against those early results, which indicated a tremendous victory for Lukashenko. Announcing the results, Election Commission officials said that Lukashenko received 80.23 percent of the vote, while his main opposition candidate former teacher Shwetlana received only 9.9 percent of the vote.
